The German translation for RAUMGREIFEND means “far-reaching, extensive,” however artist Andreas Bee, who lives in and teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf, considers his installation to be more of an interaction between a person and space. RAUM means “space”; GREIFEN means “to grasp, to take hold of.” Thus, Bee’s wood and paper constructions establish a fragile, transparent floating “interruption,” physically impacting the gallery visitors’ presence as well as their means of access to the space. Catalogue, essay by Elizabeth Bryant.
