Kadonaga creates works made from wood, paper, bamboo and glass that he has formed through natural processes, a direct response to nature and its inherent materials. The artist chooses materials common to his everyday surroundings and allows the strength, pliability, and texture of the materials to undergo natural changes as part of the creative act. Kadonaga’s explorations combine Asian meditative attitudes with a Western minimalist aesthetic to powerfully reveal the nature of the material. Catalogue, essay by Josine Ianco Starrells.
